I had an experience similar to another visitor this site, Lonnie Morrison who wrote "My attempt to cancel an American Express card."

I had the exact same experience.

I was even threatened with a negative credit report if I did cancel the card.

I still have the card even though I do not use it. I did cancel all additional cards associated with my card, i.e. wife's card.

I too tried to cancel just before the annual fee was due.

I am going to cancel the card I just need to pick a time when I am in a calm place and can deal with their poor business practices.
