Either:
A: A Sears employee or his buddy has applied for, and
received, a MasterCard in my name without my knowledge and maybe even stole my identity;
OR,
B: Sears just took it upon itself to use information it
obtained from me at the cash register to open a new MasterCard account in my name.
I'm leaning toward "B." After reading other
complaints on the web about Sears MasterCard, definitely leaning toward "B."
I'm quite furious about it, too. I plan to contact my
local law enforcement authorities about the matter so Sears can explain to a fraud
investigator how it's "just marketing."
Brief background: I received in the mail today an
envelope from Sears (P.O. Box 182250, Columbus, Ohio) which thanked me for being a Sears
MasterCard customer.
I am absolutely certain that I have never applied for, nor
received, any Sears MasterCard, ever.
I did once hold a Sears card which could only be used for
store purchases - NOT a MasterCard or similar credit card.
Hopefully, they're just
opening MasterCard accounts for their customers and a Sears employee didn't assume my
identity.
Thanks for listening.
