We own a 2001 Bonneville that has many problems including a noisy steering mechanism.

So far it has had to have a new fan motor, new manifold, and the rack and pinion replaced twice.

Now it has started again making the thumping noise when turning the steering wheel.

Pontiac needs to fix it's steering problems before it loses all it's customers.

I have a '94 which did the same thing. I spent hundreds to find out that my real problem was my engine mounts where bad.

I lost my motor in the middle of the highway and the tow guy said this is common where was.

He said the fix is to replace the tie rods, ball joints, racks, etc., and have your engine mounts checked.

It is not cheep, but a lot cheaper than the 260 mile tow and years of bad advice.
